Spring is here!

If the pollen haze wasn't a dead giveaway that spring is in full bloom in the Augusta/Appling, GA area, the number of boats being trailered down Washington Road to Clarks Hill/Lake Thurmond signals it's that time of year; the time of year to get your boat water ready for one of the best seasons we have seen on the lake in recent years. Clarks Hill/Lake Thurmond is full of water and its beauty awaits us all.

A few tips for getting your new or used boat water ready:
  • Complete a visual inspection of the boat to make sure no damage occured during the winter.
  • Top off all of your fluids including oil, power steering, gear lube and power trim.
  • Check your batteries. Battery issues were the second most common reason for on-water breakdowns last season. Batteries should be load tested to ensure viability and replaced if they fail the load testing or are over three years old.
  • Crank the engine using a remote flush attachment at home prior to your first launch of the season. This will alert you to any potential issues before you are on the water.
  • Reinstall your drain plug! We know, it has been a few months since you were on the water, but do not forget to install your drain plug prior to launching your boat!
  • Don't forget to install your safety lanyard. Remember for the boat to start the safety lanyard must be engaged.

These simple procedures can make your day at the lake smooth sailing! If you happen to be at the lake and have any boating challenges, please stop by and let Hayes Marine assist you. Beginning May 1st, Hayes Marine will be open 7 days a week to make sure we are there when you need us most.

See you at the lake!
